Over centuries, the character simplified from its complex bronze script forms to the modern 夏, retaining the 'head' (頁) component at bottom while losing some limb details. Arrived in Japan: The character 夏 arrived in Japan during the 5th-6th centuries CE, along with the broader introduction of Chinese writing system (kanji) through Korean scholars and Buddhist texts. It was formally adopted into Japanese during the Asuka and Nara periods as part of the systematic importation of Chinese culture and writing.
